About SMART ENGINEERS
SMART ENGINEERS is a specialized electrical engineering firm based in Grünwald, near Munich. It was founded in 2020 by Alexander Uhlig, who has over 25 years of hands-on experience as an electrical technician in the industrial sector.
We work with companies that don’t want to leave precise, code-compliant electrical design to chance—from individual projects to framework agreements, and from new construction to renovation.
Our clients come from the manufacturing, energy, healthcare, aerospace, water management, mechanical and plant engineering sectors, and other regulated industries. What they have in common is that they need plans that work—as evidenced by over 3,000 completed projects and more than 5,000,000 meters of pipework designed.

Circuit diagram vs. wiring diagram: Differences and applications
January 3, 2025
Introduction When it comes to electrical circuits, you often come across terms like "circuit diagram" and "schematic." But what exactly is the difference? Both
Read the articleFrequently Asked Questions About Electrical Design

What does an electrical engineer do?
Key responsibilities include the preparation of electrical schematics and distribution panel diagrams, the sizing of protective devices in accordance with DIN VDE 0100, power system calculations, and coordination with contractors and the construction management team.
What is electrical design?
Electrical design encompasses all design services related to electrical systems—from the initial concept through standards-compliant design documentation to on-site supervision. It applies to new construction, alterations, and renovations, and includes areas such as building services, building automation, and communications technology.
What is the process for an electrical design project?
We start with a brief briefing: What is planned? Which codes and industry standards apply? What are the interfaces with other trades? Based on this, we develop the concept and planning documentation, coordinate with the construction management and contractors as needed, and deliver reviewed, implementation-ready documents.
Is a wiring diagram or electrical schematic required?
Yes, in many fields, a circuit diagram is required by law. Complete circuit documentation is mandatory for the CE marking of machines and systems. Standard-compliant circuit diagrams in accordance with VDE, DIN EN 60617, and DIN EN 61082 are also required for the inspection of electrical systems by experts and authorities, as well as under the Industrial Safety Regulation.
What exactly is a circuit diagram?
A circuit diagram is a detailed representation of the electrical circuits in a system or machine. It shows how electrical components are connected to each other in order to perform a specific function.
How much does an electrical engineer cost?
The cost of an electrical engineer depends on the scope of the project—such as the size of the system, the complexity of the electrical schematics, and whether a power distribution calculation or risk assessment is included. Billing is often based on time and materials (hourly rate) or on a project-by-project basis. SMART ENGINEERS provides a customized, transparent quote for every inquiry—with no hidden costs. Please feel free to contact us.
Who draws up an electrical plan?
Electrical drawings are prepared by qualified electrical designers—at specialized electrical design firms or in technical departments. SMART ENGINEERS provides this service as a service provider and specialist designer for companies of all sizes.
Can you customize the schematic to meet the customer's specific requirements?
Yes. We create schematics exactly according to your specifications—including your own customer standards, documentation guidelines, and CAE guidelines. Integrating them into existing Eplan projects or adapting them to existing equipment identification structures is also no problem.
How long does it take to create a circuit diagram?
That depends on the complexity and scope. A simple schematic can be created in a few hours—extensive schematic packages for complex systems take correspondingly longer. During the initial consultation, you’ll receive a specific estimate for your project.
